Kathmandu, Nov. 7: President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice President Ram Shahay Prasad Yadav have extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Chhath. 

In his message, the President said that the festival, especially celebrated in Madhes region and now also celebrated in other regions including Kathmandu, would unite all Nepalis by ending all forms of discrimination, malpractices and discord present in society. Additionally, it would inspire for the preservation of original culture and maintain harmony in the society.

He said, “I hope that this festival, which celebrates the worship of nature, will contribute to ending all forms of social discrimination and discord in our society.”

Meanwhile, the Vice President in his message said that the Chhath is the symbol of diversity and richness of Nepali culture which brings all family members together.

He said, “The collective cleaning of various sacred water bodies, construction and decoration of ghats and worship ceremonies help to strengthen the bonds of unity, affection and brotherhood within the community.”

Vice President Yadav said that the festival was not only a religious ritual but also an important occasion to enliven and understand various aspects of society, culture, community, family and the environment.

Chhath, representing love for nature, uses a variety of new grains, fruits and root vegetables available in the season as offerings. There is a tradition of offering especial food items like thekuwa, bhusuwa and pirukiya as sacred offerings to the Sun.
