Kathmandu, Dec. 27: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is set to host the Elite Cup, a two-day national cricket tournament, commencing on January 5.
This tournament, named the ‘Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup,’ will feature the top four teams from last year’s Prime Minister Cup National Cricket Tournament: Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Bagmati Province, and Madhesh Province. Matches will be held in Parsa and Janakpur until January 16.
According to the fixture unveiled by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Madhesh Province and Bagmati Province will face off in Janakpur, while Nepal Police and Tribhuvan Army will compete in Parsa on January 5-6.
Following this, matches between Army and Bagmati, and Madhesh and Nepal Police, will take place on January 8-9. On January 11-12, Nepal Police will play against Bagmati, and Army will meet Madhesh.
The top two teams on the league table will then compete in the final, scheduled to be held in Parsa from January 14-16.CAN is organizing this tournament in honour of the late Jayakumar Nath Shah, the association’s former president. Shah introduced the Jay Trophy as a One-Day National Cricket tournament in 1980.
The CAN is reviving the Jay Trophy as a Premier Red-Ball Cricket tournament, aiming to test the skill and endurance of Nepali cricketers. This event promises to be a significant milestone in Nepal’s cricketing calendar.
